Shaving Update

This is an update to my Shaving post from August.

I took the advice of a commenter and switched to a Safety Razor.

This is the type of razor your dad or granddad probably used. I remember my old man using one. I'd never tried one before but after reading up about them I decided to give it a try. It seemed that it would be a better shave and even cheaper than the disposables I had been using.

So I bought a cheapo one from Amazon, this is the one I purchased. Yes its really only $2.08 (as of today) and it comes with a blade to get you started. I've used this razor about 30 times now and it works great. Someday I may upgrade to a nicer one but this one is just fine. And the blade that came with it lasted for 15 shaves before I changed it. I have no idea how they can sell this razor for only $2.08, made with slave labor I guess. The $2.08 includes shipping, be forewarned it will take a few weeks to get to you from Hong Kong.

I bought these blades which were $6.00 at Amazon at the time of purchase. That is for a box of 100. They have since gone up a few dollars at Amazon but are still a bargin.

I am getting at least 15 shaves out of each blade, and since I shave every other day, it should be 100 months (over 8 years) before I have to buy blades again.

There is a bit of a learning curve with using a safety razor. Just use Google for suggestions on how not to slice your face off. I've shaved about 40 times with the razor and have yet to cut myself.

You can use regular shaving cream, which is what I did at first. Then I decided to try the old-style soap in a cup and brush way. I bought this starter set from Amazon for $8.99. It has one block of shaving soap, a brush (boar's hair, how cool is that) and a mug. And it's working great so far. I also got a case of shaving soap through Amazon's subscribe and save program for $16.31. One block of shaving soap seems to last forever, I'm thinking I will get 4-6 months out of each soap stick/block.

I fogure I have enough shaving supplues to last me at least 5 years. All for a total cost of $33.38. And going forward the costs should be even less unless I have to replace the razor or brush.

As for the shaving itself, its actually fun to use this setup. The shaving soap works great and so does the $2 razor. The learning curve is not difficult and the shave is closer than with a disposable or electric razor.

THE PERFECT HUSBAND

Several men are in the locker room of a golf club. A cellular phone on a bench rings and a man engages the hands-free speaker function and begins to talk. Everyone else in the room stops to listen.

MAN: 'Hello'

WOMAN: 'Honey, it's me. Are you at the club?'

MAN: 'Yes'

WOMAN: 'I am at the shops now and found this beautiful leather coat. It's only $2,000. Is it OK if I buy it?'

MAN: 'Sure, go ahead if you like it that much.'

WOMAN: 'I also stopped by the Lexus dealership and saw the new Models. I saw one I really liked.'

MAN: 'How much?'

WOMAN: '$90,000'

MAN: 'OK, but for that price I want it with all the options.'

WOMAN: 'Great! Oh, and one more thing...the house I wanted last year is back on the market. They're asking $980,000'

MAN: 'Well, then go ahead and give them an offer of $ 900,000. They will probably take it. If not, we can go the extra 80 thousand if it's really a good deal.'

WOMAN: 'OK. I'll see you later! I love you so much!'

MAN: 'Bye! I love you, too.'

The man hangs up. The other men in the locker room are staring at him in astonishment, mouths agape.

He turns and asks: 'Anyone know who this phone belongs to?'

Less advanced and lethal prostate cancers in male coffee drinkers

We here at SCD care about your prostate health...Drink more coffee

The American Association for Cancer Research Frontiers in Cancer Prevention Research Conference held December 6-9, 2009 in Houston was the site of a presentation of the finding that men with a high daily intake of coffee have a significantly lower risk of advanced and lethal prostate cancer. The beverage contains antioxidants and minerals as well as caffeine, all of which could impact cancer risk.

Postdoctoral fellow Kathryn M. Wilson, PhD of Harvard School of Public Health and her colleagues at Harvard Medical School's Channing Laboratory and McGill University in Montreal evaluated data from nearly 50,000 participants in the Health Professionals’ Follow-Up Study. Regular and decaffeinated coffee intake was assessed for 1986 and every four years thereafter until 2006. During this time period, 4,975 men developed prostate cancer.

While coffee drinking appeared to have a small protective effect on the overall risk of prostate cancer, with those who consumed 6 or more cups per day having a 19 percent lower risk compared with those who did not drink coffee, when advanced and fatal cancers were separately analyzed, the risk of each was 59 percent lower in men who consumed the most coffee, and among men who had never smoked, the risk was 89 percent lower. Similar results were observed for both regular and decaffeinated coffee. "Few studies have looked prospectively at this association, and none have looked at coffee and specific prostate cancer outcomes," noted Dr Wilson. "We specifically looked at different types of prostate cancer, such as advanced versus localized cancers or high-grade versus low-grade cancers."

Always the Bridesmaid Never the Bride

Once again I came in second place

Johnny Depp wins his 2nd 'Sexiest Man Alive' title
November 18, 2009 - 8:58am

NEW YORK (AP) - Get lost, Hugh Jackman. This year's "Sexiest Man Alive" is once again Johnny Depp.

Depp nudged aside Jackman to get the coveted endorsement from People magazine Wednesday. It's the 46-year-old actor's second time as "Sexiest Man Alive." He also won in 2003.

Kate Coyne, senior editor at People, said on CBS' "Early Show" that Depp has achieved an almost "iconic status in terms of sexiness."

Says Coyne: "Johnny Depp was someone who was sexy 10 years ago. He'll be sexy 10 years from now. He's someone who appeals to multiple generations of women."

Depp joins other double winners Brad Pitt, George Clooney and Richard Gere.

Matt Bomer, who stars in USA's "White Collar," was named "Sexiest Rising Star."

Steve Wood's Top 10 for 2009

For those of you who don't know Steve. He is a former protestant pastor who converted to Catholicism years ago and he is the founder of St. Joseph's Covenant Keepers.

He was also hugely instrumental in the early 90's in keeping me Catholic during a crisis of faith, faith in the true church not faith in God - that's a story for another much longer and thought out post.

So check out his list. Christmas is coming after all. And while the items on his list might not give you the instant worldly satisfaction that say a new pair of running shoes or a pound of Italian Roast Coffee does, they will have lasting eternal benefits.

Check out Steve's Top 10 resources for Catholic families for 2009

Just How Hard is it to Pee?

What is it with you women and peeing? Everything has to be just perfect for you to go. Can’t go outside, can’t go in a porta-potty, and can’t go unless the bathroom is clean. Can’t go unless the seat is warm and scented candles are lit etc…Can’t go on demand but then when you finally have to go, get out of the way or you will be getting wetter than going over Niagara Falls.

Guys on the other hand can go anywhere anytime under and conditions. We could go on the 50-yard line of a football field during the Super Bowl. I’m pretty sure during the storming of Normandy Beach, while the bullets and bombs were flying all over the place and guys were being blown to bits, there were guys standing there on the beach going pee against the side of a blown-up tank. Even if we have gone recently we can go again. Basically we can go on demand.

What brought this up, other than the fact that I like to talk about peeing, is my bride having to give numerous urine samples over the past 2 weeks and her inability at times to go even after drinking copious amounts of fluids. She either can’t go when at the lab or she has to go so badly at home that she can’t wait until she gets to the lab. It’s all or nothing with her. Hoover Dam vs. the Mississippi river.

What Religon is Your Bra?

A primer on bra's for men. Credit for this goes to my bride even though she will be ticked-off that I gave her credit.

What Religion is Your Bra?

A man walked into the ladies department of a Macy's and shyly walked up to the
woman behind the counter and said, 'I'd like to buy a bra for my wife.'

'What type of bra?' asked the clerk.

'Type?' inquires the man, 'There's more than one type?'

'Look around,' said the saleslady, as she showed a sea of bras in every shape,
size, color and material imaginable.

'Actually, even with all of this variety, there are really only four types of
bras to choose...'

Relieved, the man asked about the types.

The saleslady replied:
'There are the Catholic, the Salvation Army, the Presbyterian, and the Baptist
types. Which one would you prefer?'

Now totally befuddled, the man asked about the differences between them.

The Saleslady responded, 'It is all really quite simple... '

The Catholic type supports the masses.

The Salvation Army type lifts the fallen.

The Presbyterian type keeps them staunch and upright.

And the Baptist makes mountains out of mole hills.

======================================================
Have you ever wondered why A, B, C, D, DD, E, F, G, and H are the letters used
to define bra sizes?

If you have wondered why, but couldn't figure out what the letters stood for, it
is about time you became informed!

{A} Almost Boobs...

{B} Barely there..

{C} Can't Complain!

{D} Dang!

{DD} Double dang!

{E} Enormous!

{F} Fake.

{G} Get a Reduction.

{H} Help me, I've fallen and I can't get up !

They forgot the German bra.

Cigarettes, Whisky and Wild, Wild Women

No that's not a title for a new FOX show, it's what the world's current oldest living man, Henry Allingham of England, attributes (somewhat tongue in cheek) his longevity too. Mr. Allingham celebrated his 113th birthday on June 6th.

And no hunny I'm not planning to follow Mr. Allingham's advice for a long life...at least not at this time...But why is that governments try and limit and/or ban all the fun things....cigarettes, booze, riding a motorcycle without a helmet? If they want to be useful why not ban the truly dangerous things: rap 'music', Cher concerts, reality shows, Oprah etc....

From The Independent -

"Having spent 113 years and 14 days on this earth, Henry Allingham is used to breaking records.

He is one of three British men still alive who actively served in the First World War, is the last surviving founder of the Royal Air Force, has long held the record for being the oldest man in Europe and earlier this year he became Britain's most ancient man ever after overtaking John Evans, a Welsh former coal miner who died in 1990 aged 112 years and 295 days.

But when Mr Allingham woke up yesterday morning at St Dunstan's care home for blind ex-service personnel, in Ovingdean, near Brighton, the supercentenarian was informed that he had suddenly achieved the highest age-related accolade for men.

Tomoji Tanabe, a Japanese retired civil engineer, had died peacefully in his sleep overnight. He was 113 years' and 274 days' old and had more than 50 great-grandchildren. Having foregone alcohol and cigarettes all his life, Tanabe had became the world's oldest man in January 2007.

That mantle has now passed to Mr Allingham – the first time a British person has ever held such a title.

A St Dunstan's spokesman said that the oldest man on Earth greeted the news by simply returning to bed after breakfast for a celebratory nap."

Man Rules

I got no time and nothing to say so you are getting an oldie but a goodie from someone better than I

At last a guy has taken the time to write this all down
Finally , the guys' side of the story.
We always hear "the rules"
From the female side.
Now here are the rules from the male side.
These are our rules!
Please note... these are all numbered "1 "
ON PURPOSE!

1. Men are NOT mind readers.

1. Learn to work the toilet seat.
You're a big girl. If it's up, put it down.
We need it up, you need it down.
You don't hear us complaining about you leaving it down.

1. Sunday sports - It's like the full moon
or the changing of the tides.
Let it be.

1. Crying is blackmail.

1. Ask for what you want.
Let us be clear on this one:
Subtle hints do not work!
Strong hints do not work!
Obvious hints do not work!
Just say it!

1. Yes and No are perfectly acceptable answers to almost every question.

1. Come to us with a problem only if you want help solving it. That's what we do.
Sympathy is what your girlfriends are for.

1. Anything we said 6 months ago is inadmissible in an argument.
In fact, all comments become Null and void after 7 Days.

1. If you think you're fat, you probably are.
Don't ask us

1. If something we said can be interpreted two ways and one of the ways makes you sad or angry, we meant the other one

1. You can either ask us to do something or tell us how you want it done.
Not both. If you already know best how to do it, just do it yourself.

1. Whenever possible, Please say whatever you have to say during commercials.

1. Christopher Columbus did NOT need directions and neither do we.

1. ALL men see in only 16 colors, like Windows default settings.
Peach, for example, is a fruit, not A color. Pumpkin is also a fruit. We have no idea what mauve is.

1. If it itches, it will be scratched.
We do that.

1. If we ask what is wrong and you say "nothing," We will act like nothing's wrong.
We know you are lying, but it is just not worth the hassle.

1. If you ask a question you don't want an answer to, expect an answer you don't want to hear.

1. When we have to go somewhere, absolutely anything you wear is fine... Really.

1. Don't ask us what we're thinking about unless you are prepared to discuss such topics as Football or Hunting or Fishing.

1. You have enough clothes.

1. You have too many shoes.

1. I am in shape. Round IS a shape!

1. Thank you for reading this.

Yes, I know, I have to sleep on the couch tonight;

But did you know men really don't mind that? It's like camping.

Finally Some Good News

With all the financial doom and gloom news out there, with my 401k now a 201k and with the rest of my investments worth less than a politician's word. It’s nice to get some good news.

From Xinhua News Agency

Male infertility associated with testicular cancer‏

Men who are infertile appear to have an increased risk of developing testicular cancer, according to a report published Monday in the Archives of Internal Medicine.

Testicular germ cell cancer, the most common cancer among young men in industrialized countries, has become even more prevalent during the last 30 to 50 years, according to background information in the article. There is evidence that semen quality and male fertility have also declined during this time in industrialized nations; however, it is unclear whether these two trends are related.

Guess He Wasn't Wearing Magic Underwear

Salt Lake City, UT

Salt Lake Tribune

It took a wedgie and a headlock to pin down a man suspected of breaking into a car.
Yvonne Morris, a technician at the Brickyard Animal Hospital, says she chased a man who broke into a co-worker's car, but he kept squirming away from her.
Morris eventually grabbed the man's boxer shorts and pulled. Salt Lake City police say she then she put a headlock on the man until help could arrive.
The man was booked into the Salt Lake County jail on suspicion of vehicle burglary, possession of stolen property and outstanding warrants.

Boxer Short Wedgie?! Ouch!!! Boxer-Briefs wouldn't be too bad and Briefs a little bit worse, but Boxer Shorts? Bet that guy quits wearing those from now on.

What's worse, having a women give you a wedgie or a woman putting you in a headlock until the heat arrives? Got a feeling he's going to have a rough time in jail after getting 'chicked'

#11 Again!!!!

Drats! Once again I just missed the top ten.

LOS ANGELES - Barack Obama was voted the most influential man of 2008 in an online poll released on Tuesday that asked men to decide who most impacted the way they behave, buy and think.

The Democratic presidential candidate was ranked No.1 by readers on the AskMen.com lifestyle Web site, beating Apple chief executive Steve Jobs and Olympic swimming champion Michael Phelps, who landed in the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, respectively.

Republican presidential candidate John McCain was ranked No. 10 on the list, which was compiled on the basis of 200,000 votes from readers of the Web site whose average age is 27-28 years-old.

The Top 10 on the AskMen.com Most Influential Men list:

1) Barack Obama (LMAO)
2) Steve Jobs (Ipods and Mac Books are nice, but #2? seriously?)
3) Michael Phelps (incredible swimmer but influential? I mean at anything other than pimping products.)
4) Robert Downey, Jr. (I can see this one, the IronMan suit was totally wicked)
5) Stephen Colbert (never heard of him - too lazy to google him)
6) Gordon Ramsay (never heard of him - too lazy to google him)
7) Christian Bale (as himself or as Batman or as John Connor in Terminator 4 that's coming out next May? anyway is cool)
8) Rob Kay (never heard of him - too lazy to google him)
9) Cristiano Ronaldo (my soccer playing kids will be pleased)
10) John McCain (I'm surprised 27-28 year-olds know who he is)
