Tip of the Day

Keep good financial records. Beg, borrow, or steal a small filing cabinet and use it.

Yes I know most things are stored on computers these days. I use online banking and keep spreadsheets on my computer. But I also keep paper copies of important docs. Makes it easier at tax time.

Things to file: all and any tax info, including past tax returns. w-2's. 401k statements, IRA statements. Bank Statements. Credit card and other loan statements. Mortgage info. Property tax bills. Any accounts in your kids names. Utility bills. User manuals and warranty info for appliances and electronics. Info on your car(s). Medical info.

In a fire proof box (or safe deposit box at your bank) keep: SSN cars, marriage certificates, car titles, property deeds, love letters, silver/gold coins, savings bonds etc...
