Tour de France 2008

Stage 8

Hills at the beginning then it flattened out for a sprinters finish.

Team Columbia did a great job setting the pace at the end of the race and chasing down the break.

Then Mark Cavendish of Great Britain made all their hard work payoff by taking the stage win. It was the young sprinters second stage win of the tour.

The Jersey status (no change from yesterday):

Maillot Jaune (yellow jersey - overall leader) – Kim Kirchen of Luxembourg who rides for the American team of Team Colombia

Maillot Vert (green jersey - points leader for sprinting) – Oscar Freire of Spain who rides for Rabobank. Kim Kirchen is actually the points leader but since you can’t wear two jerseys at once…

Maillot à pois (red and white polka-dot jersey - best in the mountains) - David De La Fuente of Spain who rides for Saunier Duval - Scott (he rode a heck of a race today)

Maillot Blanc (white jersey - best young rider - under 25) - Thomas Lovkvist of Sweden who rides for Team Columbia

À demain

Today's Tour Tidbit

What's the deal with the stuffed lion that the yellow jersey holder is given after each stage by one of the Poduim Girls?

One of the major sponsors of the tour is Credit Lyonnais (they are the yellow jersey sponsor) and their corporate symbol is a lion.
